Cut-Off Machines & Metal Chop Saws
New Lanka Tools stocks 5 cut-off machines. A cut-off saw is a fixed abrasive or blade machine for cutting metal stock to length — pull the head down and it cuts steel bar, angle, box section and pipe squarely and quickly.
GAOCHENG leads with 2 machines, alongside Makita, GrLINK and Bosch. These are bench or floor machines rather than handheld tools, which is what gives them the accuracy and the throughput that handheld cutting cannot match.
Metal fabricators, structural steel workshops, gate and grill makers, plumbers cutting pipe, scaffolding and formwork yards, and vehicle repairers all use cut-off machines. Any workshop cutting more than a handful of steel lengths a day will find one pays for itself quickly in time saved over an angle grinder.
Applications include cutting steel bar, angle, channel and box section to length, cutting pipe and conduit squarely, cutting rebar, mitring sections for welded frames, and repetitive cutting where every piece must be the same length.
The vice and the stop are what make the machine worth having. Clamp the work properly rather than holding it — an unclamped section spins when the disc bites. Set a length stop for repeat cuts and the whole batch comes out identical. Cut at the machine’s own pace; forcing the head down glazes the disc, overheats the work and shortens disc life considerably.
Abrasive cut-off discs throw a lot of sparks and hot metal. Position the machine away from anything flammable, and use eye protection, hearing protection and gloves — our Safety Equipment department covers all three.
For cutting concrete and masonry rather than metal, see our Concrete Cutters category, and for handheld cutting where the work cannot be brought to the machine, an angle grinder is the practical answer.
