Dong Cheng is the most represented brand with 4 machines, alongside GrLINK and GAOCHENG. Capacities in the range extend to large diameters — machines rated to 110mm, 168mm, 200mm and 250mm are stocked — with motor ratings up to 3400W for the larger cores.

Plumbing and drainage contractors, air conditioning and ventilation installers, electrical contractors running large service routes, civil works crews taking test cores, and structural contractors forming penetrations all use core drills. Anyone who needs a 100mm hole through a 200mm slab has no realistic alternative.

Applications include forming penetrations for soil pipes, drains and ducting, drilling through walls and slabs for air conditioning pipework and cable routes, cutting extract and ventilation openings, taking concrete test cores, and drilling anchor holes at diameters beyond the reach of a rotary hammer.

Water feed is the point to understand. Wet core drilling cools the diamond segments, clears the slurry and dramatically extends bit life, and on reinforced concrete it is effectively mandatory. It also means managing water on site — protecting finishes below and around the work. Dry coring is possible on masonry with the right bit but wears bits far faster on anything hard.

The machine must be secured properly. A large core drill generates significant torque and will twist violently if the core binds, so a rig or anchor is not an optional accessory on bigger diameters. Check whether you are likely to hit rebar before starting, and use a bit rated for reinforced concrete if so.
