Concrete Vibrators & Poker Vibrators

New Lanka Tools stocks 2 concrete vibrators, both GrLINK machines rated at 1900W and 2850W, supplied with a flexible shaft. A poker vibrator is inserted into freshly poured concrete to release trapped air, and it is the difference between a sound structural pour and one riddled with voids.

Concrete contractors, structural builders, precast yards, civil works crews and anyone pouring columns, beams, slabs or retaining walls uses a vibrator. On any reinforced pour it is effectively required rather than optional — concrete placed around dense reinforcement without vibration traps air pockets against the steel, and honeycombing at the surface is only the visible part of the problem.

Applications include compacting poured columns and beams, consolidating slabs and rafts, working concrete around dense reinforcement, eliminating honeycombing and surface voids, and improving the density, strength and durability of the finished pour.

Technique determines the result. Insert the poker vertically and let it sink under its own weight, then withdraw it slowly — around 75mm per second is the usual guidance — so the hole closes behind it. Space insertions so their zones of influence overlap. Withdrawing too fast leaves a void; over-vibrating in one spot causes segregation, with the aggregate sinking and a weak layer of cement paste rising to the surface.

Do not use the poker to move concrete horizontally around the formwork. It segregates the mix and is one of the most common causes of inconsistent strength across a pour.

Match the poker diameter to the section and the reinforcement spacing. A large poker will not pass between closely spaced bars, and a small one will not compact a deep column efficiently.
