Set-up determines both accuracy and safety. The fence must be parallel to the blade, and the blade square to the table — a fence that toes in towards the back of the blade causes binding and kickback, which is the main hazard with this class of machine. Use the riving knife and guard, keep push sticks within reach for narrow rips, and never free-hand a cut against the blade without the fence or a mitre gauge.

Support for long or wide stock matters as much as the machine itself. Outfeed and side support turns an awkward two-person job into a safe one-person one.
